Rock Islands of Palau
This is a painting of the Rock Islands in Palau, Palau is an independent country of 340 islands in the western pacific near the Philippines, forming the western chain of the Caroline Islands in Micronesia. It has previously been ruled by Spain (Spanish East Indies), Germany (German New Guinea), Japan, and a trust territory of the United States. It is now sovereign under the Compact of Free Association (1994). The battle of Peleliu was fought here between U.S. and Japan during WWII. Our son, Kenneth, served an LDS church mission here in the 1990s, and married a Palauan girl named Teruko. This painting is done in oil (16"x20") and was commissioned by our son. This was my first attempt at doing ocean water and tropical vegetation. It was done from a photo of the Rock Islands taken by my son.
This is the painting after it was framed.
