Black Bear

"Pronghorn Antelope" is an oil painting (16"x 20") on canvas completed by Stephen 30 September 2014. We often saw Pronghorn in Yellowstone along the northern regions by the Lamar Valley and toward Mammoth Hot Springs where the landscape was open, relatively flat, and dominated by sagebrush. Pronghorn are typically found in the west-central parts of the USA from Canada to Mexico and as far west as into the desert areas of California. The pronghorn has a heightened sense of curiosity, and is fleet-footed. I chose to liven up what otherwise might have been a rather drab scene of flat prairie and sagebrush with distant mountains and a mesa, while still capturing the grassland and flatter terrain.
