Cutthroat Trout

This woodburn depicts a cutthroat trout (blackspotted trout) leaping for a fly. It is a combination of woodburning, wood-carving, and painting with acrylic paints. It was done on bass wood. The fish and splashing water was cut in relief into the face of the wood to off-set it and painted with acrylic paint. Corner and edge designs were carved into the wood, and then the entire face was covered with a shiny polyurethane coating. I grew up fishing in my youth in Yellowstone, and especially was partial to cutthroat trout because of their gameness and the delicious trout dinners they provided.
