The blue jay is a passerine bird in the family Corvidae, native to eastern North America. It lives in most of the eastern and central United States; some eastern populations may be migratory. Resident populations are also in Newfoundland, Canada; breeding populations are found across southern Canada.
The bluejay was handcarved from basswood and mounted on a branch on a base of aspen. It is painted with acrylic paints and 5mm black glass eyes. The legs and feet are made of quickwood surrounding a wire insert. I completed this in about 7 days, working on it only on and off as time allowed. This is the 5th bird carving I have done. I still have 3 more to go.
