This painting entitled "Buffalo at Hayden Valley" was completed in mid-July 2014. It is oil on canvas and depicts an early autumn scene in Hayden Valley of Yellowstone National Park. The broad open expanses of Hayden Valley straddle the Yellowstone River in its flow from Yellowstone Lake to the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. In later summer the valley grass turns brassy and offsets the blue-green sage brush, dark pines, and the river. The trees in the painting are mostly lodgepole pine. Hayden Valley is an excellent habitat for elk and buffalo herds, in addition to grizzly bears, coyotes, and a wide variety of water fowl living along the river. It was one of our family's favorite places to spend time during our Yellowstone years.
